Having worked in the Animation industry for almost 15 years, my career path is evenly shared by two endeavors that I love: photography and animation. During the day, I work as an animation designer at Nelvana, and it was here that Don and I met. He was the Art Director on one of the series I was working on, and from day one, we became good buds. Honestly speaking, Don is one of the most engaging guys that I have ever met in the industry; not only is he a crazy-talented artist, but he can also engage in a half-hour critique about the latest “So You Think You Can Dance” episode! Truly, someone I adore chatting with at work!
When Don shared with me that he met someone special, I was ecstatic! And the months that followed were filled with long descriptions of this dream woman and the fascinating weekend excursions they would go on! I could tell he had falle head over heels and when I finally met Laura at a Christmas party this past winter, I could see why Don was so smitten! Laura is magical! The kind of gal who lights up every room she walks into. Having studied ballet for over 20 years and now instructing clients at her Beaches Pilates studio, Laura has a grace to her that instantly puts you at ease.
Despite coinciding with the G20 summit held this year in Toronto, Don and Laura’s wedding unfolded without a hitch. The ceremony and reception were held at the Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement a venue where Laura hosts her annual Christmas parties for her clients.
Don and Laura both wanted a wedding that was relaxed and unconventional. From Laura’s peacock-blue coloured Betsy Johnson dress, to the whimsical mural Don painted on the walls, there was a cozy elegance to their wedding that was refreshing and fun to photograph!

My favourite flower is the peony, so I was super excited to see Laura’s sunny yellow bouquet, with peonies imported all the way from Holland!

How cool is this flower bouquet light Don bought from Ikea?

There’s probably no happier flowers than daisies, and they were the perfect choice for this casual wedding.

Don has three grown sons; so photogenic and looking very dapper!

Don designed and painted the mural on the wall of the ballet studio – finishing just hours before the ceremony began!

I absolutely ADORE Laura’s Betsy Johnson dress! Doesn’t she look stunning?

The non-traditional theme even influenced their choice in wedding bands. Laura’s ring is a Paloma Picasso design and it matched the colour of her dress perfectly!
Don’s ring was created through a process often referred to as a ”marriage of metals.” Each ring is individually hand made out of high karat golds and gold alloys and are one of a kind. Kinda like Don!

Thanks again, Don and Laura for allowing me to capture your beautiful wedding! Have fun on your New York honeymoon! xo Lee

Love the rings!!
