When it comes to school field trips, the McMichael Gallery is definitely high on the list of things that are both educational and rich with Canadiana. For some reason, not once during my school years did I visit this historic gallery, which is a bit of an irony. Before photography came into my life, I studied art and painting and being a huge fan of the Group of Seven, one would think I’d have a membership at the gallery. And yet the first time I’ve ever visited the McMichael was to photograph the wedding of Liz and Rob. Before I gush over how amazing their wedding day was, I have to say that I was blown away by the beauty of the Group of Seven paintings permanently displayed at the gallery. Having only seen these paintings in art history books, it’s impossible to describe the feeling of seeing them in real life. They are breathtaking, rich in colour and texture, and so completely capture the beauty of the Canadian landscape. I plan to return again to the McMichael Gallery and this time with a sketchbook in hand.
I love October weddings. When all the elements align, one is blessed with the richest backdrop of jaw-dropping colour and the perfect climate of not-too-hot and not-too-cold. Unfortunately, I don’t know what happened to our autumn this year! We had three weeks of almost continuous rain and temperatures far below normal. And where there should have been brilliant red and orange leaves, we instead had a palette of dull green! Not the crisp and colourful outdoor wedding on the hill that we had all imaged – but somehow, we made it work…with Liz and Rob it was easy to forget how rainy it was outside – they’re just that adorable and Liz had a smile that lit up the day! With the support of an amazing ensemble of friends, Liz and Rob braved the cold with smiles and I think we captured some images that they will cherish forever!

I LOVE first looks! For two minutes Rob was literally speechless!

Liz, you’re just so cute! xo

The highlight of the evening was the improv session hosted by a comedy troupe that Rob performs with. It was silly, nonsensical and hysterically funny!

The real stars of the dance floor at this wedding were all of the adorable kids! Such crazy dance moves!

It was such a pleasure to work with you, Liz and Rob! You are kind and thoughtful and have such amazing chemistry and I wish you all the best in life! xo Lee
p.s. A HUGE thank you also goes out to my right hand gal, Robyn Chew for assisting me that day and always keeping me laughing!

Thank you, Lee and Robyn, for the beautiful photos! You did such a wonderful job at capturing all our special moments. Our friends and family were so impressed with the guest signing book/engagement photos and I can’t stop looking at them over and over again! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
